THE WISECRACKS & ANACTORIA

$20 online/$25 on door Kids Free

Venue opens at 6pm for food and refreshments. Music from 7pm

The Wisecracks-bringing their lively light hearted swing and dancing gypsy rhythms, deep heart string pulling country folk and pulling a touch of blues to smooth you all over! Expect to get off your feet for these guys, there’s no hope you won’t be dancing by the end of the show!

Anactoria (Tamlyn Magee, NSW) is a songwriter not afraid to do things her own way. Taking the harp way beyond it’s traditional sound and into a richly layered territory of alt-folk / art-pop, she sets the scene for a vocal performance that draws on an instinctive flair for performance and an acute perceptiveness into the more subtle aspects of being human.

“...Anactoria is a fierce, yet gentle force... In my ten years of touring the country, I have not seen or heard anything like the unique magic she possesses. She crafts and presents her material as if channelling a beautiful and ethereal force. ” — CANDICE MCLEOD

The Gadflys headed up the Hume from Canberra to Newtown in the days when songs came in mix tapes and every day brought a new band and a different sound. Their music was as fresh then as it is now. Good News Week brought them to a national audience. Now, this new platter from the Gaddies is its own reward. Tribal rhythms and cool bass lines, T Rex on Alligator Wine vocal growls and howls, lugubrious clarinet figures flung up like water sculptures. Mongrel Jazz, that’s what Mick Moriarty calls it! Cigarettes and whisky, hot chips and a can of passiona. LOVE & DESPAIR. With special guests including Gemma Clare on Cello.

NICK CRAFT

Perhaps best known as songwriter, musician and front man for the psychedelic rock band Sidewinder, Nick recorded ‘Minerva’ with his brother and former band mate, Martin. The brothers formed Sidewinder as teenagers in the 90s, before releasing several acclaimed albums, and constantly touring the Hume Highway live circuit and as a fixture on festival line-ups including The Big Day Out and Homebake.

No Silver Lining is the first song released from Nick Craft's first solo album- Minerva

It argues for the redemptive power of optimism, even in difficult times: Where there's no silver lining, there's just a darkness at the centre of the flame…

The Blue Angel and Dr Weidemann

Where do popular icons come from? The Blue Angel and Dr Wiedemann’s music looks at the origins of what inspired a woman on her journey to fame, and what happened to those that were left behind. Their music traces the Blue Angel’s life as a performer in Weimar Berlin, her untimely death and acceptance of living in the nether world as a spirit. The Blue Angel is accompanied by her faithful and dearly departed sidekick, Dr Wiedemann.

The Blue Angel and Dr Wiedemann recently won an award for "Best Cabaret" at the Nimmitabel SteamPunk@Altitude Festival.

The Blue Angel and Dr Wiedermann are the finest and only exponents of Brechtian punk cabaret. Comical and philosophical, the Blue Angel and Dr Wiedemann’s music has elements of German rockabilly, they are ethereal characters embedded in the bygone Weimar era.

Music and Performance from 7pm

The Novellas are a 5-piece hailing from the Bega Valley. Our bittersweet songs are inspired by contemporary works of fiction from Australia and beyond. Sparse & atmospheric, The Novellas paint in song the evocations of the printed word and celebrate the emotional power of storytelling.

The Novellas concept was born when singer/songwriter Myoung Jae Yi used his book reading hangovers as raw material for his songwriting contributions to the Candelo Songwriters Club. This quickly developed into a burning desire to spread the word about authors such as Michelle de Kretser, Carrie Tiffany and Dave Eggers, to name but a few.

The lineup is Myoung Jae Yi on vocals and guitar, bassist Josh Becker, Joe Fragnito on drums and vibes, Andrew Gray on piano and vocals and Georgina Hargraves on oboe, flute, and saxophone.

Joining The Novellas is actor Patrick Dickson in the role of HAŇT´A the book crusherHAŇT´A springs forth from the book "Too Loud a Solitude" by Czech author Bohumil Hrabal. He will infuse your spirit with his love of books and delight with tales from a bittersweet life.
